In the latest episode of the PokerSoftware.com Podcast, we welcome Eric “DiscoBisco” Larson, an instructor at the popular poker training site DeucesCracked, and Dennis Bragg, who made a major announcement regarding SNG Wizard.
Our first guest on the PokerSoftware.com Podcast was Larson, an instructor at DeucesCracked, one of the major poker training sites. The conversation began with an introduction by Larson, who said that he has been playing online poker since his college days six years ago. He started coaching last December at DeucesCracked and our host, Sean Gibson, testified how his coaching videos have helped his game.
The first question posed to Larson was the origin of his screen name, which comes from his favorite band, the Disco Biscuits. He stated they are an electronic jam bad and that he’s “one of those people that finds a band and goes with it. I don’t listen to a ton of different bands.” He even admitted to having a tattoo in honor of the Disco Biscuits, reflective of his dedication.
The discussion moved to poker and Heads-Up Display (HUD) stats, referencing an article that Larson assisted PokerSoftware with a few months ago. He stated that he uses Holdem Manager and that when it comes to an HUD, a minimalist approach is the way to go. He doesn’t like to clutter his table so that the HUD overlaps with names, cards, or stack sizes. The stats he uses in the HUD include VPIP, PFR, Hands, Cbet, Fold to Cbet, 3bet, Fold to 3bet, Steal, and aggression stats. “I definitely live and die by the pop-up… and I don’t play anything like 24 tables. I usually play 12 to 14 tables so I can have a few seconds to study the pop-up in a crucial spot,” Larson added.
Larson went on to say that there are three options to improve your play. The first is to get coaching and the second is to get a subscription to a poker training site and watch as many videos as you can. The third and most expensive option is to do both, which may be the best option. “Watching these videos is good… but when applying some of these things to your own game, people can struggle with that. Having a coach watch you while you are playing will go a long way to get concepts triggering in your brain,” he said.
Our next guest was Dennis Bragg, the chief programmer behind SNG Wizard. Announced for the first time exclusively on our Podcast, Bragg revealed that SNG Wizard would be offered as an integrated piece in Holdem Manager. This program has been around for five years, starting as a side project. In recent years, it’s grown to become one of the most helpful programs available for tournament players.
“I started playing around with ICM and quickly figured out that I could produce a better program than what was out there. After a year, it was done and I marketed it and it just caught on from there,” Bragg explained when asked about the history of the program.
“Somewhere around April 13th, we will be releasing a new version of Holdem Manager that has SNG Wizard fully integrated… The cost will be exactly the same as it is now, $99, which gets you both the integrated and standalone versions.”
Bragg went on to explain many of the advantages of using the integrated edition, which will automatically pull data from Holdem Manager. The program is a full set of tools that analyze your play and get you playing smarter tournament poker. Bragg added that there is also a 30-day free trial. This announcement will be one that many sit and go and tournament players will find very exciting.
